What’s Cooking This Weekend? — Weekend of October 26-27, 2013
Happy Friday, kitchen friends! What’s in your cooking lineup this weekend? I’ll be in Atlanta, cooking up butterscotch pudding and other bakeless goodies at the Country Living Fair, but I have a fridge full of fall vegetables that I’m eager to get home to. Savoy cabbage, kohlrabi, purple-edged turnips — just a few of the good things waiting to be enjoyed. What about you? What’s cooking in your kitchen this weekend?
7 Reclaimed & Handmade Wood Dining Table Makers You Should Know About
We love the look of a warm, wooden dining table. It’s just so cozy and perfect for long dinners with friends and family. Here are seven to be aware of:
Boeuf Bourguignon, Cheesy Slow Cooker Rigatoni, Chicken and Potato Soup, Cider Baked Beans & Lamb Korma — New Recipes from the Kitchn
Low and slow was the name of the game this week. We had recipes to help you get your slow cooker into action, like savory Boeuf Bourguignon and super cheesy “baked” rigatoni with spinach and mozzarella, as well as plenty of recipes that just need a pot and a place to put it, like lamb korma and hearty Colombian Ajiaco soup. This weekend, why not slow down and let dinner simmer for a while — meals like these are worth the wait.
Slow Cooker Revolution, Volume 2: Easy-Prep Edition by America’s Test Kitchen — New Cookbook
Tired of slow cooker recipes that call for an hour of prep work before you finally get to set the timer and walk away? The editors at America’s Test Kitchen hear you. Their latest cookbook of slow cooker recipes (The Easy-Prep Edition!) is full of just the kind of “set it and forget it” meals that make us glad we own a slow cooker.
Why Can’t I Keep the Stovetop Clean?
With the changeover from summer to fall, my kitchen also changes from cooking absolutely anything that does not require the stove to everything that requires cooking for hours on the stove. Giant pots overflow with stock, soups, and stews that sizzle and burn on my white metal stovetop. By the weekend when we’re ready to do a bit of cleaning, our poor little four burner rental stove looks like it doesn’t know what hit it.
