Chocolate chip cookies are like a hug in food form. It’s not hard to see why they’re one of the most popular types of cookies, with melting pockets of chocolate encased in buttery vanilla dough. Although they come in many forms — thin, crispy, cakey, dense — I have to say my favorite is chewy with a crisp edge and some toasted nuts (in this case, almonds) mixed in for an extra crunch.

Everybody knows that pizza is the moving day meal of choice — pizza shops are everywhere, open continuously, deliver, you don’t need plates or silverware to eat it, and everyone loves pizza! But what about the first morning in your new place? If your boxes haven’t arrived yet or you just haven’t gotten around to unpacking (moving day was stressful enough!), you’ll need some basic-as-it-gets kitchen supplies so you don’t have to turn to takeout.

So what should you do? Make a box and designate it as your moving kitchen survival kit, fill it things you will need until your kitchen is unpacked and set up, and move it yourself so it doesn’t get lost in the moving day whirlwind. Here’s what to put inside!

Emptying Out the Pantry — Weekend Meditation

I’ll be moving house in a few months and thus have been refraining from stocking up too heavily on staples. Instead, I have vowed make my way through the miscellaneous packets and jars and cans in my cupboards, which is sometimes fun and sometimes an effort. A few of those items have been lingering on the shelf for good reason and it’s getting down to the worst of the bunch. Soon, I will have to get ‘creative’ with such uninspiring ingredients as canned corn and cut green beans (I hate canned vegetables — why are these on my shelf?) There’s also an alarmingly large stash of pasta to wade through.

My CSA Experience at Amber Waves Farm — A New Generation on the Farm

This is my 5th year living on Long Island’s East End, where the abundance of local vegetables, fruits, flowers, honey is incredible – with farm stands and farmers markets providing the community with the freshest ingredients all season long.

But this is my first season where I’m more than just a “shopper” and have become part of a farm – joining as a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) member at Amber Waves Farm.
