Hello, and welcome to Day 1 of the Kitchn Cure. I’m really excited to get started on our four-week journey to a more mindful and thoughtful relationship with our kitchens. As the creator of The Kitchn’s Weekend Meditations column and an author of a new book based on the mindful kitchen, I’m planning on taking the cure to a more thoughtful place this year. Yes, we will still sort and scrub and toss and reevaluate. But we will also pause to reflect and connect on a deeper level with our kitchens and all that happens there.
And so we begin today, quite naturally, with a sit and a list.
We’ll admit we’re a bit addicted to our phones at times. Whether it’s social media, reading, or catching up on podcasts, sometimes we can’t pull ourselves away. And then there are the games; whether you have lots of games on your phone, or just a select few favorites, there are plenty of fun food-themed games to play.
So when you’re enjoying a little down time on this holiday Monday, try your hand at one of these addictive games. Just be careful not to lose the whole afternoon.
One of the reasons I like to cook mostly healthy food is so I can justify the occasional dish like this one. In between an evening featuring herby scallion chicken, and another dinner starring poached salmon with cilantro sauce, I can rationalize this warm hug of a meal.

“Salad shrimp, tomatoes, onion, cilantro, and lime juice combine for an tasty version of salsa for dipping your tortilla chips.”
There are very few foods that feed a large crowd with little effort. Tacos may be the simplest option for feeding a lot of people, and today we are bringing you one of our favorite taco stuffings: barbacoa beef, tender and full of rich, complex flavors. Yes, did you know you can make that tasty stuff you buy at Chipotle in your own kitchen — and in your slow cooker, no less?
What if I told you that I could guarantee perfectly cooked, perfectly tender pork chops, every time? Would you believe me? Or have too many dinners of overcooked shoe-leather pork chops turned you off from this easy addition to the weeknight meal rotation? Let me convince you to try them one more time. Let me convince you to try roasting your pork chops in the oven.
Here is our step-by-step recipe for perfectly cooked, perfectly juicy pork chops.
We’re reaching that point of summer where the days of perfectly ripe, blissfully sweet peaches are limited, so now’s the time to stock up and work them into every meal. Arm yourself with these recipes to take advantage of those sweet and juicy summer peaches before it’s too late.

“Perfect for all you shrimp lovers out there, this dip or salad dressing is refreshing and goes great with your favorite cracker or vegetables. If you don’t have cider vinegar, you can use pickle juice.”
